What’s the Significance of the Summer Solstice and why you should care!

Friday, June 21 will be the longest day of 2019 for anyone living north of the equator.

When most people hear about the solstice they think of Stonehenge and the Mayan temples where the sun casts perfect shadows, druids and pagans dance, and the celebration of the shortest night is marked by mystical rituals and celebrations. Did you know that ancient Chinese saw the summer solstice as an expression of yin, feminine energy, which is balanced by the yang, or masculine energy, of the winter solstice?

All this is great information and kind of fascinating if not novel, but what does this have to do with you?  Well, I can tell you why you should pay attention!

The summer solstice is the return of the light. It’s about you reaching your full potential and It’s about you shining your brightest.

For me, this is a time to evaluate the year thus far. How am I doing on the intentions that I set at the beginning of the year? What do I need to tweak? Where do I need to focus more attention? What else do I need to release?

These are the questions we ask ourselves often when we do this kind of work, but this time when we ask, we are in the energy of this particular marker of time so there is a greater significance.

The season of summer is about growth. You have awakened from the darker shadows of winter, planted the seeds of spring, you have been tending to your garden and you are seeing the fruits of your labor start to bloom. There is a momentum in the energy this time of year so your mission here is to keep watering, pruning and observing all of the actions in your life that are affirming progress toward harvest.

This review and assessment may have you feeling a pause in what you are receiving. That momentum I speak of may not feel fully present in your daily life.  The force is there, holding the energy of your desires. It’s as if it is an undercurrent moving just below the surface and you must understand that right now is the most important time to keep going. Stay steady with your daily rituals, edit them if you feel it’s necessary, but don’t stop.

You may feel that you have done everything you can and still you’re not seeing results. If you have “done it all” then your next step is to allow. Allow the universe to nurture your work just as the sun nurtures the fields. Let the nature of the cosmos do its job and keep the faith. The act of trusting is just that, an act so do that! I often refer to that old saying “When fishermen can’t go to sea, they mend their nets” to remind myself that there is always something I can be doing. And yes, relaxing and enjoying the sunny days of summer is doing something!

With this new season of summer try something new! Stay focused on your goals and try different approaches to reach them. Do something unlike you have ever done before. Take a route you’ve never taken. Start that creative project you have been thinking about. Any action of “inspired, intentional doing” is going to pay high dividends right now so take action and have some fun!

There are major manifestations right around the corner for you! Stay steady and focused in your energy and remain confident that the bounty is coming.
